FAQ

Applications for Cohort Seven are now being accepted.  Applications must be RECEIVED by May 21st

Eligibility
Faculty teaching mathematics at a community or technical college or other associate degree-granting institutions may apply provided:

* They have a masters degree or higher in mathematics, mathematics education or other related field with significant coursework in graduate-level mathematics, and

* The 2010-11 academic year will be the first, second or third year of their first full-time, renewable position at any community college. (Note: Contracts for the current position should begin Fall term, 2008 or later.) Adjunct, part-time and full-time temporary faculty are ineligible. It is expected that most participants will be recent graduates with master or doctoral degrees, or adjunct faculty members who have moved into full-time positions.

The first six groups of ACCCESS Fellows (Cohorts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6) are listed elsewhere on this site.  AMATYC Project ACCCESS will select another group (Cohort 7)  of about twenty-four participants for 2010 - 2011

Cost
The cost is shared by the participant's home institution and AMATYC.  Funding will be provided by AMATYC for

·  Conference Registration (Boston, MA and Austin, TX conferences)

·  AMATYC Project ACCESS workshops (Boston, MA and Austin, TX conferences)

·  The Saturday night meal (Boston, MA and Austin, TX conferences)

·  Airfare (up to $300) for the Boston, MA conference

·  Two nights’ lodging (double occupancy) for the Boston, MA, conference

·  AMATYC membership for both years (2010 and 2011) of the fellowship

We estimate that the total institutional commitment will be approximately $2000 spread over the two years of the Fellowship.  Assurances of institutional support and eligibility are of critical importance in the acceptance process.

Deadlines
The deadline for submitting applications is May 21st.  Please notice that this is the date they must be in, NOT the postmark deadline.

Project Activities
New ACCCESS Fellows must be available to attend the following during their fellowship year:

* The AMATYC Conference in
Boston, Massachusetts, November 10 - 14, 2010
* The AMATYC Conference in Austin, Texas, November 9 - 13, 2011.

As an integral part of their professional development during their Fellowship year, Fellows are expected to develop, implement, and evaluate a project at their home institution. Fellows will also participate in an electronic network which will link ACCCESS Fellows and a group of distinguished mathematics educators.
